The Saint Eater

Priced-Miracle Dark Fantasy · A Noctis Codex Trilogy

The Saint Eater

He swallowed a saint. Seven answered.

A butcher swallows forbidden saint-flesh by accident and learns the terrible arithmetic behind every miracle: the Church heals the rich by moving their suffering into the bodies of the poor. Now a household of saints lives inside him, each gift costing him a piece of his own humanity, and he means to read the accounts aloud.

Miracles are not gifts. They are bills, sent to people too poor to refuse them.

The Story

Bram is a gifted butcher, a shameless cheat, and the best reader of weight in his market square. His whole life is his shop, the boy he raised, and the money he is saving for a smokehouse and a first sight of the sea. Then he finds saint-flesh sewn into an unmarked carcass, eats it without knowing what it is, and a saint begins knocking from inside his chest.

Through the relic Bram can move suffering out of one body and into another, and he discovers that this is exactly how every sanctioned miracle already works. Each saint he lets in gives him a new way to manipulate the cost, and takes something human from him in return: his dreams, his hunger, his taste, his sleep, at last his memory. He fights back with his trade rather than divine power, reading miracle accounts the way he reads a carcass, finding the seams, naming who really paid.

The Story, Book by Book

Book One: The God in the Meat

Bram swallows the relic, the Choir wakes inside him, and he learns to read the true price of a cure. When he reads a miracle receipt aloud to a whole square and proves that Church grace is financed with poor bodies, he becomes the one thing the Church cannot allow to keep talking, and the road takes him.

Book Two: The Ghost Towns

Bram and Elian pass through silent towns hollowed out by generations of transferred suffering, racing an Exchequer archive to the evidence before it burns. Caro pays the debt her family has carried for generations, publicly and by her own choice, and her death becomes the movement's founding testament.

Book Three: The Called Bill

Elian leads a nation to rescue Bram and expose the First Bill, the unpaid account beneath every miracle in the kingdom. The answer is not for one man to swallow the whole cost, but for every parish to withdraw its consent, so each historic debt returns at last to the bloodline that bought it. The shop reopens. The smokehouse gets built. They finally go to the sea.

For Readers Who Want
