This policy explains what we do with personal information collected through noctiscodex.com. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

1. Who is responsible

Noctis Codex is a sole trader based in the United Kingdom and is the data controller for the information described here.

2. What we collect

Your email address, if you choose to join our list. That is the only personal information we ask you for.

Basic technical and usage information, collected automatically by our website platform: pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, browser and device type. This is standard server and analytics data and we use it only to understand which parts of the site are useful.

We do not ask for your name, your address or your date of birth. We never see or store payment details, because nothing is sold on this website.

3. What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent or trade your email address to anybody.
• We do not run advertising trackers or advertising pixels on this site.
• We do not build profiles of readers or make automated decisions about you.
• We do not require an email address to download the free opening chapters. They are open to everyone.

4. Why we use your email address

Only to send you the newsletter: release dates, cover reveals and free opening chapters. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you give by submitting the form and can withdraw at any time.

Every email carries an unsubscribe link. One click and you are gone. You can also write to us and we will remove you by hand.

5. Who else handles your information

We use a small number of service providers to run the site and send the emails. They process your information on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

• Shopify, which hosts this website and stores newsletter signups.
• Our email delivery provider, which sends the newsletter and records whether an email was opened so that we can tell whether anyone is reading it.

Some of these providers operate outside the United Kingdom. Where information is transferred abroad, it is protected by the safeguards required under UK data protection law, such as standard contractual clauses.

6. Cookies

This site uses only the cookies needed to make it work and to give us basic visitor numbers. There are no advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.

7. How long we keep things

We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, and we remove unsubscribed addresses on a regular sweep. Technical and usage data is kept only in aggregate.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. You can also withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise any of these, email info@noctiscodex.com. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.

9. Children

Our books are dark fantasy and horror written for adult readers, and this site is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their email address, tell us and we will delete it.

10. Buying our books

Every Noctis Codex book is sold by Amazon. When you follow a link from this site to Amazon, you are leaving us, and what happens next is covered by Amazon's own privacy policy, not this one. We never see your Amazon account, your order or your payment details.

11. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so that we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk.

12. Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes affecting the newsletter will be announced in the newsletter itself.
